Goat meat, also known as chevon, cabrito, capretto or kid depending on the age of the goat, is a lean tender red meat. Goat is low in fat with a serving containing 26 grams of protein with only 2.58 total grams of fat. Of that, only 0.79 grams are saturated fat. Goat contains several vitamins and minerals including calcium, phosphorus, potassium, iron and niacin.
Minka Farm’s goats are raised on pasture and are not given hormones or antibiotics to speed their growth. The goats are offered a small amount of grain daily to make moving and managing them easier. We primarily raise Kiko meat goats who are hardy and well-adapted to the environmental conditions of North Carolina.
At Minka Farm, we work to sustain habitat for wildlife on our farm while keeping our domesticated animals safe from natural predators. Our goats live in pastured and wooded area that are protected by good fences and multiple livestock guardian dogs. Even though multiple coyote dens call Minka Farm “home,” we haven’t yet lost any goats to the coyotes or other predators.
Minka Farm Chevon is available by the cut and as whole goat. Availability is seasonal and limited.
Whole Meat Goats
Buy a live goat at $175. You can take it home or we will transport to Chaudhry Halal Meats in Siler City, NC on our usual schedule (about once per month) and you give cut instructions to Chaudhry. You are responsible for processing fees and picking up final product, fresh or frozen – your choice. These are spring kids that usually weigh between 35-60# live weight at the time of sale. No antibiotics or hormones.
