Are you a high schooler thinking about being a veterinarian? Or know one?

2020 dates TBD

9:00 am – 2:00 pm daily

Cost: $250 per week

This camp is for rising 9-12th graders.  We will start by meeting all of the animals of Minka Farm: small ruminants (goat & sheep), birds (chicken & ducks), cats, dogs, and equines (horses & donkey). Then, depending on what veterinary care is needed by the animals during the week, we will care for the animals and learn while we go.  We’ll perform physical exams, read fecal floats, do FAMACHA testing, and give any needed vaccines. Other possible tasks include deworming, feeding orphan sheep and goats, assessing the health of the pigs, learning to age horses, banding chickens and more. In the classroom, we will delve into the field of veterinary medicine – the kinds of careers, schooling and additional training needed and what you can do now to start preparing. We will learn about some of the diseases that affect animals, practice palpation, learn some veterinary terminology and anatomy. This will be a very hands-on camp!

Who’s Teaching these Camps?

This camp is being taught by Kimberly Harry, DVM.  Having graduated from NCSU-College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Harry worked in veterinary practice as a small and exotic animal veterinarian before becoming a full time farmer.  She provides all the veterinary care for her livestock, including cattle, sheep, goats, ducks, chickens, pigs, horses, donkeys, livestock guardian dogs and barn cats.  In addition, Minka Farm has hosted visits from the NCSU-CVM avian rotation and parasitology group, Boy Scout troops, Y Princesses, Girl Scouts and more.

How Do I Register?

The registration form can be found HERE, but if it’s not working (remember, I’m a farmer and veterinarian, but not a programmer!) send an email to and let me know you need a document form of the registration form. A $50 deposit is required at the time of registration to hold your spot with the balance due one week before camp.

Minka Farm reserves the right to cancel camp and will notify you as soon as possible if this is necessary.  Deposits will be returned in the event that Minka Farm has to cancel camp.
